Supplier Matching Case Study: CNC-Machined Aluminum Electronics Housing

This case study focuses on RapidMfgPro's role in reviewing project requirements and identifying suitable independent suppliers. Customer and supplier names are omitted.

RapidMfgPro did not manufacture the part. Manufacturing quotations, production commitments, inspection results, and contractual terms are provided by the independent supplier selected for the project.

Project Overview

A buyer needed an independent supplier for an aluminum electronics housing with internal pockets, threaded mounting points, assembly interfaces, and cosmetic exterior surfaces. RapidMfgPro reviewed the 3D model, 2D drawing, target quantity, finish, tolerance notes, and packaging expectations before beginning supplier screening.

Customer Sourcing Requirement

The sourcing challenge was not simply finding a shop that could machine aluminum. The selected supplier also needed experience with thin-wall enclosures, fixture support, burr control, visible surfaces, thread verification, and coordination with the required surface finish.

How RapidMfgPro Matched the Process and Supplier

RapidMfgPro converted the drawing requirements into a supplier checklist covering suitable CNC equipment, comparable enclosure experience, soft-jaw or dedicated fixturing, finishing allowances, anodizing coordination, inspection capability, capacity, and quotation lead time. Suppliers were asked to confirm manufacturability risks before pricing.

Supplier Evaluation and Quality Priorities

The quotation package highlighted mounting faces, hole position, thread gauges, internal pocket dimensions, flatness of assembly interfaces, cosmetic handling, and post-finish dimensional risks. These checkpoints helped compare suppliers on more than unit price.

Supplier Match Result

The project was directed toward suppliers with relevant aluminum-enclosure experience and the ability to coordinate machining, finishing, inspection, and protective packaging. Final supplier selection remained subject to technical confirmation, commercial quotation, and buyer approval.
