Supplier Matching Case Study: Lightweight Aerospace Bracket

This case study focuses on RapidMfgPro's role in reviewing project requirements and identifying suitable independent suppliers. Customer and supplier names are omitted.

RapidMfgPro did not manufacture the part. Manufacturing quotations, production commitments, inspection results, and contractual terms are provided by the independent supplier selected for the project.

Project Overview

A buyer needed a lightweight aluminum-alloy bracket with material-reducing pockets, angled faces, mounting holes, and tight interface requirements. RapidMfgPro reviewed the model, drawing, material specification, quantity, surface treatment, traceability needs, and the dimensions that affected installation.

Customer Sourcing Requirement

The sourcing challenge was identifying a supplier able to machine thin sections and angled geometry without excessive setup error or distortion. The project also required careful interpretation of datums, interface features, edge condition, and any documentation or certification requested by the buyer.

How RapidMfgPro Matched the Process and Supplier

RapidMfgPro screened multi-axis CNC suppliers for comparable aerospace-style bracket experience, stable roughing and finishing strategies, fixture support for thin regions, access to angled features, inspection of positional relationships, material traceability, and coordination of the selected finish. Certification claims were to be verified before order placement.

Supplier Evaluation and Quality Priorities

Supplier evaluation centered on datum features, mounting-hole position, interface flatness, pocket dimensions, wall thickness, distortion, edge condition, material records, and inspection documentation appropriate to the project.

Supplier Match Result

The sourcing process narrowed the project to suppliers with relevant multi-axis machining and documentation capability. Final selection remained based on technical clarification, verified credentials where required, quotation, lead time, and buyer approval.
