Supplier Matching Case Study: Medical Device Prototype Components
This case study focuses on RapidMfgPro's role in reviewing project requirements and identifying suitable independent suppliers. Customer and supplier names are omitted.
RapidMfgPro did not manufacture the part. Manufacturing quotations, production commitments, inspection results, and contractual terms are provided by the independent supplier selected for the project.
Supplier-matching focus: This case study explains how project requirements were converted into supplier-screening criteria, quotation questions, and quality checkpoints.
Project Overview
A buyer needed several prototype components that had to assemble together for design verification. The set involved different geometries and material requirements, so RapidMfgPro reviewed the full assembly, individual drawings, revision status, quantities, critical interfaces, surface condition, and documentation needs.
Customer Sourcing Requirement
The sourcing challenge was finding a prototype supplier that could manage multiple parts as one functional set. Individually acceptable dimensions would not be enough if datum interpretation, mating features, hole positions, or revision control caused assembly problems.
How RapidMfgPro Matched the Process and Supplier
RapidMfgPro screened suppliers for low-volume CNC capability, metal and engineering-plastic experience, assembly-aware DFM review, small-feature machining, dimensional reporting, revision control, clean handling, and the ability to coordinate a first set before repeating the order. Certification needs were treated as project-specific and required verification.
Supplier Evaluation and Quality Priorities
The supplier comparison emphasized mating dimensions, alignment features, hole positions, surface condition, assembled fit, material documentation where requested, and clear inspection records linked to the latest drawing revision.
Supplier Match Result
The project was matched toward prototype-focused suppliers able to evaluate the component set as an assembly rather than quote each part in isolation. The buyer retained final approval of the supplier, documentation level, and production release.
