Project Overview
A buyer needed a milled housing and turned shaft that would function together in a robotic joint. RapidMfgPro reviewed both part drawings and the assembly model, focusing on bearing locations, shaft diameters, mounting interfaces, material choices, quantity, finish, and the required movement or fit.
Customer Sourcing Requirement
The sourcing challenge was coordinating two different machining processes while controlling the relationship between mating features. A supplier or supplier combination had to understand bearing fits, bore alignment, shaft runout, datum relationships, and assembly verification.
How RapidMfgPro Matched the Process and Supplier
RapidMfgPro screened suppliers for CNC milling and turning capability, experience with bearing seats and precision shafts, coordinated inspection, matched-part handling, material sourcing, and the ability to machine an initial set for fit review. Quotation questions required suppliers to explain how critical interfaces would be controlled across both parts.
Supplier Evaluation and Quality Priorities
Evaluation priorities included bearing bores, shaft diameters, runout, mounting faces, alignment features, surface finish on functional areas, assembled movement, and traceability between inspected mating parts when required.
Supplier Match Result
The project was directed toward suppliers capable of managing the housing and shaft as one functional assembly. Final supplier approval depended on technical responses, inspection capability, quotation, and the buyer’s assembly requirements.
