Supplier Matching Case Study: Sheet Metal Control Enclosure

This case study focuses on RapidMfgPro's role in reviewing project requirements and identifying suitable independent suppliers. Customer and supplier names are omitted.

RapidMfgPro did not manufacture the part. Manufacturing quotations, production commitments, inspection results, and contractual terms are provided by the independent supplier selected for the project.

Project Overview

A buyer needed a fabrication supplier for a control enclosure with cutouts, formed panels, installed hardware, joined corners, and finish-ready external surfaces. RapidMfgPro reviewed the assembly model, flat-pattern assumptions, sheet grade, thickness, quantity, hardware list, finish, and dimensional priorities.

Customer Sourcing Requirement

The sourcing challenge was matching the project with a supplier that could manage the full sequence: cutting, bending, hardware insertion, welding or joining, distortion control, surface preparation, finishing, and final dimensional checks. Tool access and assembly alignment also had to be considered.

How RapidMfgPro Matched the Process and Supplier

RapidMfgPro compared suppliers on laser-cutting and press-brake capacity, enclosure experience, bend tooling, PEM or captive-hardware insertion, welding capability, powder-coating coordination, dimensional inspection, and ability to review the flat pattern before quotation. The supplier brief identified bend reliefs, critical cutouts, and assembly interfaces.

Supplier Evaluation and Quality Priorities

Evaluation priorities included overall size, bend angles, cutout location, door or cover alignment, hardware retention, weld distortion, grounding or sealing interfaces where applicable, and protection of finished surfaces during packing.

Supplier Match Result

The project was routed toward suppliers able to control the complete enclosure workflow rather than outsourcing disconnected operations without coordination. Final selection depended on DFM feedback, quotation, sample requirements, and the buyer’s approval.
